The ongoing Napoleonic wars meant that there was less money hanging around for expensive clothing, but upwardly-mobile ladies were still expected to change their dresses up to seven times a day. The result? Crazy patterns in cheaper cloths like cotton. Here’s a dress shop for any lady worth her tea attempting to impress a wealthy, titled beau.
